No meio do caminho entre a pintura e a escultura, Artschwager desenvolve uma linguagem única, usando os novos materiais domésticos de sua época, sempre trabalhando para a fusão de figuração e abstração, inovação artística e design, e ironicamente procura combinar o funcional e o inútil.

Concebida como um labirinto aberto, a exposição apresenta uma seleção abrangente de pinturas e esculturas que datam do início dos anos 1960 até a primeira década deste século.

O Artschwager representa lugares, cenas da vida cotidiana e objetos comuns, como mesas, cadeiras e aparadores, interpretando-os em materiais industriais comuns e padronizados, como fórmica, celotex, tinta acrílica e crina de borracha.

O trabalho da Artschwager questiona continuamente a aparência e a essência, oferecendo-nos uma interpretação delicada, realista, bem-humorada e monumental do mundo.

O Museu Guggenheim de Bilbau apresenta a exposição Richard Artschwager, uma ocasião única para pesquisar a carreira criativa de Richard Artschwager (Washington, DC, 1923 - Albany, Nova York, 2013), um artista que trabalhou a meio caminho entre pintura e escultura e desenvolveu uma obra única. idioma usando os novos materiais domésticos de seu tempo. Este projeto ambicioso, concebido pelo curador de renome mundial Germano Celant e co-organizado pelo Museu Guggenheim Bilbao e MART - Museu de Arte Moderna e Contemporânea de Trento e Rovereto, compreende cerca de 80 peças, juntamente com uma seleção de documentação arquivística raramente vista.

Projetada como um labirinto aberto, destacando os principais núcleos da obra de Artschwager, a exposição apresenta uma seleção abrangente de pinturas e esculturas que datam do início da década de 1960 à primeira década do século XXI: de suas primeiras estruturas e pinturas em madeira e fórmica no Celotex até sua esculturas de cerdas de nylon e “peças de canto”, incluindo obras em crina de cavalo e blps, que o artista começou a fazer em 1968 e exibindo individualmente ou em escala em toda a cidade. Artschwager, que teve uma experiência crucial como marceneiro no início de sua carreira, sempre trabalhou na fusão de figuração e abstração, inovação e design artístico, e ironicamente procurou combinar o funcional e o inútil.

Halfway between painting and sculpture, Artschwager develops a unique language using the new domestic materials of his time, always working toward the fusion of figuration and abstraction, artistic innovation and design, and ironically seeks to combine the functional and the useless.

Designed as an open labyrinth, the exhibition features a comprehensive selection of paintings and sculptures dating from the early 1960s to the first decade of this century.

Artschwager represents places, scenes from everyday life, and common objects such as tables, chairs, and dressers, interpreting them in ordinary, standardized industrial materials such as Formica, Celotex, acrylic paint, and rubberized horsehair.

Artschwager’s work continually questions appearance and essence, offering us a delicate and realistic, humorous yet monumental interpretation of the world.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents the exhibition Richard Artschwager, a unique occasion to survey the creative career of Richard Artschwager (Washington, D.C., 1923 – Albany, New York, 2013), an artist who worked halfway between painting and sculpture and who developed a unique language using the new domestic materials of his time. This ambitious project, conceived by world-renowned curator Germano Celant and co-organized by the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and MART – Museo d‘Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, comprises some 80 pieces alongside a selection of rarely-seen archival documentation.

Designed as an open labyrinth highlighting the main nuclei of Artschwager’s œuvre, the exhibition features a comprehensive selection of paintings and sculptures dating from the early 1960s to the first decade of the 21st century: from his first wood and Formica structures and paintings on Celotex to his nylon-bristle sculptures and “corner pieces,” including works in horsehair and so-called blps, which the artist began making in 1968 and displaying individually or on a citywide scale. Artschwager, who had a crucial experience as a cabinetmaker at the beginning of his career, always worked toward the fusion of figuration and abstraction, artistic innovation and design, and ironically sought to combine the functional and the useless.
